Joy of Giving – Blood Donation Camp At Ecosmob

CSR - Blood Donation Camp

CSR – Blood Donation Camp

We all know that giving something to someone gives much more satisfaction than getting something. May be because by getting something the only person gets happiness is you, but by giving something you make not only yourself happy, but also someone else. 🙂

Ecosmobians believe in the joy of giving and always stay ahead to do something for the society. This time we had a blood donation camp as part of our CSR activities. This time Ecosmobians decided to help those kids who are suffering with the malady of thalassemia. A team of Ecosmobians conducted a camp with the help of an NGO, namely, Prathama Blood Centre where people can donate their blood.

Each Ecosmobian came forward to take part in this initiative. Though a few ecosmobians like me had to be disappointed because we couldn’t donate blood due to certain issues 😦 But we contributed in other possible ways like helping people in filling up forms. We are happy to see a few volunteers came forward for the noble cause. A few Ecosmobians also visited the nearby shops and streets to spread awareness and get a few more donors. We are glad to collect 32 blood unites and looking forward to have such campaigns again in future.

We are thankful to all those volunteers who contributed to this cause. We are also thankful to Prathama to make our thought true. They also provided bags to the donors as a token of appreciation. We appreciate the efforts they are putting for the people in need.

I would like to share a few facts which I learned during this campaign. A few people do not donate blood due to various fears. I would like to tell you there is nothing to get scared of. Donating blood will not make you weak or sick. In fact, it contributes to your health in a positive way. Regular blood donation reduces the accumulated and unwanted iron load from the body which reduces the chances of Ischemic Heart Diseases (beginning of heart problems). A few people also think that you donate it for free and they are selling it. There is a reason they charge for it. The blood you donate is raw blood, which can’t be used directly for anyone. That blood gets processed and preserved, which is an expensive process. So you can say that the price anyone pay for a blood bottle is the expenditure blood bank had in blood processing and preservation. Hope this burst the myths and biases, in case you have any. I also hope that at lease some of you get inspiration to save a life by donating blood.

The Cleanliness Mission Continues

As you all know that we have joined the Mahatma Gandhi Swachhata Abhiyan. We had worked towards the clean drive mission on 14th Feb, 2015 by cleaning the Ahmedabad Municipal Market at C.G. Road for the first time. We decided to continue the efforts and be an active part of this drive as we are one of those people who believe in the Quote, “Be The Change, You Want To See.”

This time we went to the location near judges bungalow. It was an abandoned and very messy plot near H.P. Petrol Pump. When our team reached at the site, the whole place was too filthy and untidy. The garbage was spread out in each nook and corner of the plot. Abandoned carts were lying there in disorder. The heavy wooden sticks were dispersed here and there. An open drainage line was making the place more ugly and sick. It was a complete disaster for the clean and healthy environment. The fact to be noted here is that the place is surrounded by the residential area. People do live in such a messy and unhygienic place.

Well, it was the time for action, so the Ecosmobians put on their masks and gloves and started cleaning the place. We asked the local vendors on roadside to collect their things so we don’t sweep someone’s useful stuff. As part of our mission, we swept the whole plot, arranged the abandoned carts in a place and made sure that the collected garbage get out of there. We are thankful to AMC to send the garbage collecting van on our request to get the garbage out of the place. I think, we did contribute to what we had thought of.

Clean Drive by Ecosmobians

Clean Drive by Ecosmobians

A few experiences I would like to share specifically. When our team was sweeping the area, we saw a local lady came into her balcony with a big plastic bag of garbage. She was about to throw it, but stopped as we were sweeping there. She hung it there and went in. I don’t know why, but my gut feeling says that she must have thrown that garbage-bag once we had left that place. 😦 Another thing was a woman came in her balcony and shouted, “Could you please take the garbage from that area also as it stinks a lot!” We invited her to join us and she went in with an excuse, and never came back 😛 We saw a few men shown us thumbs-up and clapped from a distance and then went into their houses 😀 An another local man told us, “you are cleaning this, but come tomorrow and you will see the same filthy place.”

Fuh, what to say? What to learn? What to do with the mentality of such people? I strongly believe that people want to see a clean city, a clean nation, but I just don’t understand why they are not willing to contribute towards it? Why they can’t stop themselves or people around them to stop messing around? Why do we have the set mindset that India can’t get completely clean?(I hear this often so mentioned it) Why can’t we all join the drive instead of criticizing some political parties or blaming each other for messing around?

We need to be open-minded. We need to understand that the cleanliness is for our betterment. The mess around our residence or work place or our city is making us sick, not the country. It’s about our health. Stop throwing waste on open places, no matter, anyone is watching you or not because you are watching yourself. We all are at least that much educated to understand the importance of cleanliness. So we have and must behave like responsible citizens. Please excuse me if it sounds rude or offensive, but this is the sad feeling I usually have each time I see the disappointing gestures of the people towards the cleanliness and our nation.

I am not saying I am perfect and doing best towards cleanliness. I still resist appealing people to throw waste in dustbin when I see people throwing wrappers or spitting here and there. I get a strong feeling to tell them to use the dustbin, or just give it to me and I will throw it there, but I just can’t 😦 I scold myself often for this fear of mine, but I will try to work on it. But it doesn’t mean I am not doing anything. At least, I ask known people to not throw garbage. I do take responsibility that my family and friends don’t make our city, nation filthy. I am at least doing a bit to keep my city, my nation clean. I think everyone can do that. Right? So will you?

Ecosmobians Exhilarated By Breathing With Shwas

Ecosmobians take part in various activities and events to contribute towards society as part of their CSR activities. On last Saturday, Ecosmobians went to support a local NGO, called “Shwas – Breathe Life Into”. The NGO is supporting underprivileged children to get better education and improved life. The NGO is started by a group of volunteers and they started various activities to encourage underprivileged kids to achieve their dreams. The Shwas has enrolled the children into schools and also teach them on a daily basis in their area by taking private classes. The NGO encourages people to support these children by paying their fees via NGO or directly to the school. The NGO also arranges various events to collect donation which is used for the education of the children and also to generate awareness about the cause amongst people.

This time the NGO had arranged an event under which they had established a food stall and painting exhibition at B.K.School of Management, Ahmedabad. The paintings were painted by one of the kids. The team of Ecosmob Technologies went at a food stall as volunteers. The Ecosmobians supported the cause in all possible ways, including, taking active participation at the stall; Collecting donation from the visitors; Buying one of the paintings and donating the fund collected at Ecosmob. It was a great experience for us to be part of such a noble cause. We also appreciate the initiative of “Shwas-Breathe Life Into” for doing such a noble cause. A few of our Ecosmobians are also looking forward to be an active part of it and help the kids in all possible ways.

There is also something I would like to share which the Ecosmobians had experienced there. A very few visitors were happy to help while a few visitors was not really interested to buy a food packet of just 25 Rs. I assume the majority of people who were there might spend 100 bucks on watching a movie or having some light snacks just like that. Excuse me if there is some genuine reason those visitors had to not to support the cause. I think we can at least do a bit by buying a single food packet, or buying a painting which will not only encourage a child, but will support the future of the underprivileged kids. According to me, we used to hesitate to donate due to various reasons. One of them can be a doubt that the donation might not reach the right people, but the matter of fact here is the Shwas NGO encourages to directly pay the fees into the school if you have any doubts. In such scenario, there is a least possibility to have doubts. I am not saying to donate blindly to anyone, but at least try to check the details and support the NGOs which are genuinely doing something good for the people in need. I wish after reading this article, next time more people will donate or support such social activities and activists. If you are encouraged to contribute to the betterment of those kids via Shwas, here is the Facebook page URL where you can get more details https://www.facebook.com/ShwasBreatheLifeInto

If you want to be part of the CSR (including Clean India Drive) activities of Ecosmob Technologies, contact me by leaving a comment with your details in this Blog or by contacting me on any of the social media listed in my Author bio below.

This is the time to do something good for someone. I am doing my bit, Are You? Will You?
